Dangote Group refutes Sahara Report, denies ownership of truck involved in fatal Ondo crash
The Dangote Group has debunked reports linking one of its trucks to a fatal accident in Ondo State, saying the vehicle involved does not belong to the company.
This comes after Sahara Reporters earlier published a story claiming that a truck “belonging to Dangote” was responsible for a ghastly accident along the Ore–Okitipupa Road, which left several people dead and others injured.
In a swift reaction, Dangote Industries Limited issued a statement on Thursday distancing itself from the incident, describing the report as false and capable of misleading the public.
“We wish to state categorically that the truck involved in the tragic accident is not owned by Dangote Industries Limited. All our trucks are properly branded and tracked, and this particular vehicle does not bear our identity or registration details,” the company said.
The statement also expressed condolences to the victims’ families, while urging journalists and media organizations to verify information before publication.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation to ascertain the true owner of the vehicle and the cause of the crash. Eyewitnesses said the truck lost control and rammed into other vehicles and pedestrians before coming to a stop, resulting in multiple fatalities.
The accident has reignited public concern over road safety, especially the reckless driving habits of heavy duty vehicle operators on Nigerian highways.
