Kwara Monarch raises alarm over persistent bandit threats in community
A traditional ruler in Kwara State has expressed deep concern over the continued vulnerability of his community to bandit attacks, warning that residents live in constant fear due to inadequate security presence.
Speaking during a visit by local officials, the monarch lamented that despite repeated appeals, the community has not received sufficient protection from security agencies. He said bandits have continued to target farmers, travellers, and remote settlements, disrupting livelihoods and forcing many residents to abandon their farmlands.
According to him, the lack of sustained patrols and slow emergency response time allow criminals to operate freely, especially at night and along major footpaths. He warned that if urgent steps are not taken, food production in the area could decline further as farmers remain too frightened to go to their fields.
Community leaders are calling on the state government and security agencies to deploy more personnel, strengthen collaboration with local vigilantes, and install early warning systems to prevent fresh attacks.
In response, local authorities pledged to escalate the matter to relevant security heads, assuring residents that efforts are underway to improve surveillance and restore confidence.
For now, the community remains on edge, hoping that renewed government attention will lead to more robust protection and a return to normal life.
