President commends Senate for confirming Musa as Defence Minister
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the Senate for confirming General Christopher Musa (retd.) as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
In a statement on Thursday, the President described the Senate’s action as timely, noting that the confirmation comes at a period when the country faces serious security challenges. He said Musa’s appointment will help strengthen ongoing efforts to improve national security.
General Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, was screened and approved by the Senate after answering questions on security operations across the country. Lawmakers questioned him on recent security lapses, including incidents in the North-West, and sought assurances of reforms.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Musa’s experience and leadership will support the government’s push for a more coordinated and effective defence system. He also thanked the Senate for what he called an “expedited confirmation process.”
