Accord Party declares Adeleke sole governorship aspirant for 2026
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s new political voyage within the Accord Party gathered momentum on Wednesday as the party’s Screening Committee officially declared him the sole aspirant for its 2026 governorship ticket.
The announcement, made by the committee chairman and National Organising Secretary, Ibe Thankgod, affirmed that the Osun State governor had met all requirements for nomination and was therefore cleared without contest.
Thankgod described Adeleke as a “worthy gubernatorial aspirant,” noting that his documentation, credentials and party engagement satisfied every criterion set by the party.
At a brief ceremony in Osogbo, the committee chairman presented Adeleke with his certificate of clearance, formally sealing the governor’s emergence as the unopposed flagbearer.
An evidently confident Adeleke expressed gratitude to the committee and the party hierarchy, declaring readiness for both the primary and the general election slated for 2026.
“I am ready for the primary, and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” he said, projecting early momentum for his fresh political platform.
Adeleke’s swift consolidation within the Accord Party comes barely 24 hours after he publicly announced his defection to the party, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party on December 2.
His move has already begun to reshape Osun’s political landscape, positioning Accord Party as a major force ahead of the next gubernatorial race.
With Wednesday’s clearance, the governor now stands as the party’s undisputed standard-bearer, setting the stage for a high-stakes political contest in 2026.
