BREAKING: Gov Adeleke announces defection to Accord Party
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday formally unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform, declaring that the party will serve as the vehicle for his 2026 re-election bid.
Speaking at a packed event in Osogbo, the governor disclosed that he had quietly joined the Accord Party over a month ago—on November 6, 2025—after what he described as “extensive consultations” with stakeholders, opinion leaders and political allies across the state.
Adeleke said the decision was driven by the need to consolidate ongoing governance reforms and protect the development strides recorded under his administration.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision,” he said. “We intend to pursue a second term on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad.”
The governor added that the Accord Party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s core priorities.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism matches our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare. Since joining, I have been fascinated by the party’s philosophy. The primary essence of government is the welfare and wellbeing of the people,” he noted.
Adeleke formally welcomed the national leadership of the Accord Party into the state, stressing that the new alliance represents a united front committed to the progress of Osun.
“You are now part of us, just as I am now part of you,” he said. “We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”
He charged party members to maintain unity ahead of next year’s election, noting that the Accord Party is now positioned to take over the full governance structure of the state.
“From Osun West to Osun East and Osun Central, this is our party—our new platform for victory come August next year,” he declared.
Adeleke’s move instantly reshapes the political landscape of Osun State, setting the stage for a fierce contest as the 2026 governorship race gathers momentum.
