BREAKING: Court rules in favour of Ngige on bail application
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Gwarinpa, Abuja, on Thursday, granted a former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, permission to continue enjoying the administrative bail earlier granted him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The trial judge, Justice Maryam Hassan, made the order while delivering a ruling on the bail application filed on behalf of the former minister and argued by his lead counsel, Patrick Ikwueto (SAN).
In her ruling, Justice Hassan directed Ngige to produce a surety who must be a serving director in the employment of the Federal Government and own a landed property.
The judge further ordered that the surety should deposit the title documents of the landed property, as well as his travel documents, with the court pending the time Ngige completes the retrieval of his own international passport.
Justice Hassan noted that the court’s decision was to ensure Ngige’s availability whenever required by the court or the anti-graft agency.
Ngige was previously granted administrative bail by the EFCC on self-recognition, with a directive to submit his travel documents to the commission and provide one surety.
The matter was adjourned, with further details expected as proceedings continue.
