TCN completes upgrade, restores electricity supply to Taraba
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored electricity supply to Taraba State following the completion of upgrade works on the Yola–Mayo Belwa–Jalingo transmission line.
TCN said in a statement that power supply was fully restored to Jalingo and other parts of the state at about 7:00 pm on 13 January 2026, after successful pre-commissioning tests were carried out on the upgraded facilities.
The company explained that the outage, which started on 9 January 2026 at about 2:16 pm, was a planned shutdown to enable contractors to execute critical upgrade works on the transmission line.
According to TCN, the project involved line stringing from the terminal tower to a newly constructed line bay, as well as the energising of 150MVA power transformers at the Jalingo and Mayo Belwa transmission substations. It added that the Gombe–Yola transmission line was temporarily opened on 11 January to allow extension works at the Yola Transmission Substation.
TCN said the upgrade would enhance transmission capacity, improve power reliability and support increasing electricity demand in Taraba and neighbouring states.
The company also expressed appreciation to electricity consumers for their patience during the outage and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the national grid.
