JUST-IN: Gov Fintiri officially joins APC
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, governor of Adamawa State, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fintiri announced that members of his cabinet and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had moved with him to the ruling party, putting an end to days of speculation over his political future.
Earlier in the week, 15 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, including Speaker Bathiya Wesley and Deputy Speaker Buba Jijiwa, resigned from the PDP.
The lawmakers said their decision was prompted by the lingering internal crisis within the opposition party.
Fintiri’s defection further weakens the PDP’s national political strength, leaving the party with only three governors across the country.
