Man murders brother for allegedly ‘shooting him’ in a dream
A 43-year-old man, Lateef Suleiman, has allegedly killed his elder brother, Mustapha Amidu, 52, in Sepeteri, Oyo State, after accusing him of shooting him in a dream.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement, describing it as a tragic development reported at the Ago-Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters in Sepeteri.
According to the statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the matter was reported by one Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri. The suspect allegedly attacked his brother following a claim that the deceased had shot him while he was asleep the previous night.
Police said the suspect approached his brother where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head and fled the scene immediately.
The victim was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Amodu Division reportedly visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.
The Command confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and has allegedly confessed to the crime. He is currently cooperating with investigators.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The police assured residents that justice would be pursued in accordance with the law and urged members of the public to make use of emergency contact lines in distress situations.
