Fresh violence in Jos: Hoodlums attack motorists, Residents, business activities disrupted

Tension returned to Jos, Plateau State, on Wednesday as fresh attacks by hoodlums targeted motorists and residents across multiple areas, even after the state government relaxed its curfew.

Our correspondent reported that a young man walking along the road leading to the UNIJOS Permanent Site was hacked to death by assailants who attacked him without provocation, further stoking fear among residents.

In areas including Terminus, Bauchi Road, and Gangere, mobs smashed vehicle windscreens and assaulted pedestrians, causing widespread panic. Businesses across these communities remained closed, with many shop owners refusing to open for fear of being caught in the unrest.

Banks in the volatile locations also temporarily halted operations as staff and customers struggled to navigate the escalating violence.

Residents identified the UNIJOS corridor, Bauchi Road, Farin Gada, Tina Junction, and Chobe as the worst-hit areas. Movement across these parts of the city has significantly decreased as many opted to stay indoors amid growing insecurity.
