APC Lawmaker Rukayat Shittu secures re-election ticket for Kwara Assembly seat
Nigeria’s youngest lawmaker, Rukayat Shittu, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) re-election primary, securing the party’s ticket for the Owode/Onire State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Shittu defeated her only cleared challenger, Sulyman Ayegun, in the primary election held on Wednesday to clinch the party’s nomination.
The exercise was described as keenly contested, reflecting strong interest and participation within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party stakeholders noted that the Owode/Onire constituency has long operated a rotational arrangement between its two axes, a tradition that has often limited lawmakers to a single term in office.
Shittu’s victory positions her as the APC flag bearer for the constituency, as she prepares to seek re-election in the forthcoming general polls.
If successful, she is expected to make history as the first legislator to secure a second term in the constituency, breaking a long-standing political rotation pattern.
Political observers say the outcome signals strong internal party support for her candidacy as mobilization intensifies ahead of the elections.
