Amaechi rejects ADC presidential primary results, describes process as ‘concocted’
Former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, describing the results as “concocted” and inconsistent with democratic norms.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Wednesday, Amaechi alleged that the exercise was marred by widespread voter disenfranchisement, insisting that a significant portion of party members were denied participation in the process.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” he stated.
Amaechi recalled that he had earlier vowed to accept only a free, fair and transparent process, maintaining that the conduct of the primaries fell short of that expectation.
“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” he said.
He further alleged that about 80 percent of party members were excluded from voting, questioning the credibility of the exercise.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he added.
The former governor also accused the ADC leadership of replicating the same electoral flaws it had previously condemned in other political parties, including vote buying and result manipulation.
“A party that criticises the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results cannot be engaged in the same practices,” he said.
Amaechi maintained that the ADC was formed to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative political platform rooted in fairness, inclusion, and accountability.
“The whole idea of the ADC was to give the Nigerian people a platform, to amplify the voices of the downtrodden, and make Nigeria a better place for everyone irrespective of backgrounds, ethnicity, or religion,” he added.
The rejection of the primary outcome is expected to deepen internal tensions within the ADC as the party heads toward the 2027 general elections.
