“No Child Should Be Denied Education Because of Disability” — Education Minister marks Children’s Day with inclusion campaign
As part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all Nigerian children.
The minister made the declaration while hosting young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr. Ikharo Attah, Alausa stressed that no Nigerian child should be denied access to quality education, support, or opportunities because of disability, background, or social circumstances.
The Children’s Day event, attended by pupils from different schools and backgrounds, focused on inclusion, child development, and equal opportunities for children across the country.
Speaking during the celebration, the minister described Nigerian children as the foundation of the country’s future and called for stronger national commitment towards protecting their rights and nurturing their talents.
> “Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance,” he said.
Alausa particularly praised Dera Osadebe for her advocacy on behalf of children living with disabilities and autism, describing her as a symbol of courage, resilience, and hope.
According to the minister, her advocacy has helped promote conversations around empathy, inclusion, and equal access to opportunities for children with special needs.
> “Dera’s courage and passion reflect the resilience and brilliance that exist in millions of Nigerian children. Her voice continues to inspire important conversations around inclusion, empathy, and equal opportunity for every child,” he added.
The minister also stated that the Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to expanding access to inclusive and quality education nationwide.
He encouraged children across the country to believe in themselves, develop their talents, and contribute positively to society.
> “Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow, and succeed.”
The Federal Ministry of Education further reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at promoting inclusive education, safe learning environments, and equal opportunities for every Nigerian child.
