BREAKING: Keir Starmer resigns as UK Prime Minister
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his resignation after spending fewer than two years in office, bringing an abrupt end to a tenure marked by policy reversals and declining public approval.
Speaking in an emotional address outside 10 Downing Street on Monday, Starmer said his decision was guided by national interest and not personal ambition.
> “Every decision I have taken has been about putting the country I love first. That is why I will resign as leader of the Labour Party,” he said, visibly emotional during the announcement.
Starmer confirmed that the Labour Party will begin the process of selecting a new leader in July. He added that he will remain in office as Prime Minister until a successor is chosen, expected to take over by September.
The announcement signals a major political transition in the United Kingdom, with Labour now preparing for an internal leadership contest that will determine who succeeds Starmer at Downing Street.
His resignation follows a turbulent period in office, during which his administration faced criticism over policy U-turns and growing public dissatisfaction.
