The remains of veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have arrived in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his burial.

Family members, colleagues, friends and residents gathered in the town on Monday to receive the remains of the 66-year-old actor as preparations for his final rites commenced.

Among the Nollywood personalities who arrived in Ilaro to pay their final respects were veteran actors Yinka Quadri and Jide Kosoko.

Actress Ireti Osayemi was also present in the town, with videos showing her arrival ahead of the burial ceremonies.

The atmosphere in Ilaro was largely sombre as mourners gathered to honour the actor, whose death has sent shockwaves through the Yoruba film industry.

Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer.

His death came days after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for urgent financial and medical assistance, revealing that their father was battling an advanced stage of the disease.

The family had reportedly sought further medical intervention after doctors informed them that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition.

According to the burial arrangements, Hassan’s remains were taken to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony was scheduled to hold at the Pavilion on Monday before his interment.

Born in Ilaro, Ogun State, Hassan was one of the most recognisable figures in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades across film and television.

His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders who have continued to remember his contribution to the growth of Yoruba-language cinema.
