Twelve minutes later, Nkunku turned provider, setting up Pedro Neto, who beat Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with a low finish after breaking through on goal.

Just before halftime, Chelsea extended their lead as Levi Colwill rose highest to head Neto’s wide free-kick into the net, making it 3-0.

In the 78th minute, substitute Tyrique George played a key role in Chelsea’s fourth goal, assisting Marc Cucurella, who finished off a counter-attack with a powerful drilled shot.

With this emphatic win, Chelsea climbed into fourth place in the Premier League, two points ahead of Manchester City and Newcastle, who are set to play on Wednesday.
