NUJ FCT Council inaugurates NUJ Peoples Daily Chapel officials
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has inaugurated the newly elected officials of the Peoples Daily Chapel of the Council.
Those inaugurated as officials of the Peoples Daily Chapel were: Christiana Ekpa (Chairman), Joy Baba-Yesufu (Vice Chairman), Stanley Sunday Onyekwere (Secretary), Mashe Umaru Gwamna (Assistant Secretary), Mahmud Isa (Treasurer), Miriam Habeeb (Financial Secretary), and Abubakar Yunusa (Auditor), following their presentation by the Electoral Committee Chairman, Comrade Lateef Ibrahim, who conducted an affirmation procedure, as they were all unopposed candidates for their respective positions.
While addressing the Christiana Ekpa-led chapel Executive Council at its swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Comrade Ike, who was represented at the occasion by Vice Chairman of the Council, Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo, reiterated her team’s commitment to enhancing professionalism and welfarism in the union by the ethics of the profession.
She disclosed that measures are being activated to tackle the threats posed by the presence of fake journalists in Abuja and reinvigorated efforts to improve the welfare of genuine media practitioners domiciled in the council.
She noted that in addition to the swift physical renovation of the Council Secretariat building, her team had already developed a functional website for the NUJ FCT to upload news materials and profiles of practicing journalists for the use of the public.
She therefore commended the members of the Chapel for a hitch-free exercise for the nomination and affirmation of their officials and stressed the need for unflinching support for the good of all.
Also speaking, Secretary of the Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, who administered the oath of office, signaling the swear-in of the officials, charged them to embrace and promote the spirit of teamwork, integrity, and inclusivity in the charge of their duties within the Chapel and the Council at large.
He commended the Chapel for a clear demonstration of gender sensitivity in the formation of its officials, which according to him conforms to the objective of the current leadership of the Council.
Responding, Comrade Christiana Ekpa expressed appreciation to the Chapel members who found her and other officials worthy to pilot the affairs of the Chapel and promised not to betray their trust.
According to her, the executive council under her watch in partnership with the Council would come up with initiatives to boost members’ welfare and the status of the Chapel.
“We deeply appreciate the NUJ-FCT Council’s Chairman for supporting and embracing the new changes in our Chapel and we sincerely thank the Vice Chairman of the Council and the Secretary for their wonderful roles.
“Thank you for believing in us and ensuring that the NUJ PeoplesDaily Chapel has a brand new Executive Council.
“The Lord God Almighty, who provided this opportunity to serve possible through our Chapel members, will empower us to make you all proud”, she affirmed.
