Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta recovering well after head injury in FA Cup clash
Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has confirmed he is in good condition after being hospitalised due to a head injury sustained during Saturday’s FA Cup fifth-round match against Millwall.
Millwall’s goalkeeper, Liam Roberts, was shown a red card in the eighth minute following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, which determined that he had caught Mateta on the side of the head while attempting to clear the ball.
Medical staff attended to the French forward on the pitch, administering oxygen before he was taken to hospital for further assessment. His early exit saw substitute Eddie Nketiah introduced, who later found the net to help Palace secure a 3-1 victory.
In a message shared on social media, Mateta reassured supporters that he is on the mend and looks forward to making a strong return.
Crystal Palace later confirmed that Mateta had been released from hospital.
