Doyin Okupe, Former Presidential Spokesperson ,Political Strategist, Dies at 72
Dr. Doyin Okupe, former presidential spokesperson and prominent political strategist, passed away at 72. His death was confirmed on Friday, 7 March 2025.
Okupe was a key figure in Nigerian politics, serving as a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan and, more recently, as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign. In December 2022, he stepped down from Obi’s campaign after being convicted of money laundering.
Following the 2023 general election, Okupe resigned from the Labour Party and later became an outspoken supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He remained actively engaged in political discourse, often contributing to national debates.
However, his political career was not without controversy, as he frequently found himself at the centre of political debates and legal challenges.
