Information Minister reaffirms FG’s commitment to sustainable reforms
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, fnipr, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable reforms during the 4th edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series held at the National Press Centre, Abuja.
The event, which serves as a platform for government ministers to update the public on their respective policies and achievements, featured the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmed. Also in attendance were Permanent Secretaries, directors, and heads of agencies from the various ministries.
Speaking at the briefing, Idris emphasised the importance of direct engagement between the government and the citizens, highlighting that the Ministerial Press Briefing initiative was designed to ensure Nigerians receive firsthand updates on government policies and progress. “This session is an interactive platform leveraging multimedia channels to promote transparency and direct public engagement,” he stated.
According to the Minister, five ministers have already taken part in the ongoing 2025 series, presenting their scorecards to the Nigerian people. He reaffirmed that each minister would have the opportunity to engage directly with the media, reinforcing the Tinubu administration’s commitment to openness in governance.
Idris also commended the media for their role in informing the public and fostering democratic accountability. “Your efforts in keeping Nigerians informed about the administration’s policies, programmes, and achievements are truly commendable,” he said.
Addressing the economic landscape, the Minister acknowledged the challenges posed by ongoing reforms but assured Nigerians that the hardships were temporary. “Our country stands at a critical juncture as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu implements bold and transformative reforms. Across the world, history has shown that meaningful reforms are never easy; they demand sacrifice, resilience, and a commitment to long-term progress,” he remarked.
He noted that the government’s policies were beginning to yield results, citing a reduction in food prices, stability in exchange rates, and a gradual decline in the cost of petroleum products as key indicators of progress.
The Minister further appealed to religious leaders to use the sacred period of Ramadan and Lent to pray for the nation’s peace, security, and development. Reflecting on his recent address at the Annual Ramadan Lecture organised by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) in Kaduna, Idris underscored the role of faith in governance. “A nation thrives when its leaders govern with a sense of divine responsibility, and I assure you that President Tinubu leads with the utmost fear of God, guided by the conviction that history will judge his administration favourably,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to remain united, resilient, and hopeful, stressing that with collective effort, the country would emerge stronger and more prosperous.
The Ministerial Press Briefing Series continues to provide an avenue for government officials to engage directly with Nigerians, reinforcing the administration’s pledge to keep citizens informed and involved in the nation’s governance process.
