Retired Naval Chief Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas steers Rivers state through stormy waters as Tinubu’s Emergency Administrator
Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, a retired Nigerian Navy vice admiral, has been appointed as the administrator of Rivers State, following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state on March 18, 2025.
Born on September 27, 1960, in Nko, Cross River State, Nigeria, Ibas boasts an impressive educational background and a distinguished military career.

Ibas served as the 22nd Chief of the Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 and held various appointments, including commanding officer of the Nigerian Navy Underwater Warfare School and chief of logistics.
His achievements have earned him several awards and decorations, including the Silver Jubilee Medal and the Nigerian National Honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
As the new administrator of Rivers State, Ibas brings his wealth of experience and expertise to the role. His appointment follows the state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Ibas is expected to play a key role in restoring stability and governance to the state.
