Fire ravages Sokoto school for orphans, Gov’t officials Assess damage

A devastating fire broke out at Jarma UK Academy yesterday evening, destroying several offices and hostels within the school premises.
In response, the Sokoto State government dispatched a delegation to assess the extent of the damage.
The team, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, included the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Haliru Dikko, and the State Attorney-General, Nasiru Mohammed Binji.
The fire severely impacted key areas of the school, including students’ hostels, the offices of the Principal and Vice Principal, the computer laboratory, and a staff room on the upper floor.
Clothing, mattresses, blankets, and other personal belongings of students were lost in the inferno. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
During the visit, Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, expressed the government’s sympathy to the school’s management on behalf of the state.
He, however, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah that no lives were lost and no students sustained injuries.
“Jarma UK Academy was established by a philanthropist, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo, Jarman Sokoto, in 2018, with 176 students, mostly orphans displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno and Yobe States,” he stated.
He further explained that the school provides a blend of western and Islamic education alongside entrepreneurial skills to help students become productive members of society.
