FG embarks on major technological upgrade for Media outlets – Minister
The Federal Government has commenced a comprehensive upgrade of media infrastructure in Nigeria, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has announced.
Speaking at the 2025 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Idris revealed that the government is investing in modern technology and acquiring cutting-edge broadcast equipment for federal media organisations. This move, he explained, is aimed at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of information dissemination across the country.
According to the Minister, part of the initiative includes replacing outdated facilities in government-owned radio and television stations, ensuring they are equipped to meet contemporary broadcasting standards.
“We are engaging leading manufacturers in the broadcast industry to provide our media organisations with access to emerging technologies, technical training, and improved infrastructure,” Idris stated during interactions with top executives of international broadcast firms.
The Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to foster global partnerships in the broadcasting and information sector, describing strategic communication as crucial for the successful implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
While touring the exhibition halls at the NAB Show, Idris inspected a range of innovative broadcast solutions, including antennas, transmitters, and studio systems, designed to improve transmission quality and operational efficiency.
Executives from major broadcast equipment companies – including Thomas King (KINTRONIC Laboratories), Enrico Vaccari (Axel Technology SRL), Gianluca Baccalini (SYES SRL), Josh King (Kintronic Labs Inc.), Khiran Keerodhur (Thomson Broadcast), and Calvin Carter (Continental Electronics) – welcomed the Minister and expressed readiness to collaborate with Nigeria in boosting its broadcasting capabilities.
Minister Idris is leading a high-level delegation comprising key figures from Nigeria’s media regulatory and production agencies: Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos (Director-General, Nigeria Television Authority), Ali Muhammed Ali (Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria), Charles Ebuebu (Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission), Dr Lekan Fadolapo (Director-General, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria), and Jibrin Baba Ndace (Director-General, Voice of Nigeria).
The NAB Show, which runs from 5 to 9 April 2025, is themed “The Technology, The Trend, The Future.” It showcases innovations in artificial intelligence, cloud-based solutions, content creation, and sports media production – all areas of interest for Nigeria as it seeks to modernise its media landscape.

The Nigerian delegation’s participation is geared towards building international partnerships, exploring content-sharing arrangements, and driving sector-wide innovation to elevate the country’s broadcasting and information delivery systems.
