NYSC member embarks on life-changing project to fence Durumi Cemetery
Ukpevo Faith, a serving corps member, has taken on a remarkable project to build a perimeter fence around the Durumi cemetery. Inspired by the cemetery’s deplorable state during a recent cleaning exercise, Faith aims to restore dignity to the resting place of departed souls.
The project, estimated to cost over N21 million, has garnered support from community leaders and potential sponsors, while seeking for more sponsors to ensure completion of the project.
Faith’s vision is driven by her desire to give back to society and create a benchmark for future generations.
“I was moved to ask questions when I saw the cemetery’s state,” Faith explained. “I realized that funds and manpower were the major factors hindering the perimeter fence from being raised.”
Faith’s project involves constructing a durable fence to secure the 4-hectare cemetery, preventing vandalism and desecration. She has submitted proposals to organizations and individuals, receiving positive responses.
When asked about her motivations, Faith said, “I believe in God’s blessings and for every good work of kindness and show of love and respect, God honors every bit of it.”
Faith, a 24-year-old Accounting graduate from the University of Abuja, sees herself pursuing a career in business and accounting while continuing to contribute to society.
Her role model, her mother, inspires her philanthropic efforts. Faith’s cherished moments come from seeing people smile when she does something good for them.
With the project’s approval from authorities and potential sponsors on board, Faith remains optimistic about completing this life-changing project.
