FRSC recovers 35 stolen vehicles in six months using advanced vehicle identification technology

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered 35 stolen vehicles across Nigeria in the first half of 2025, reinforcing its commitment to public safety and national security through the strategic use of technology and inter-agency collaboration.

This significant achievement was made possible through the Corps’ deployment of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) portal, a data-driven technology platform designed to combat vehicle-related crimes by enabling real-time tracking and verification of vehicle information.

The stolen vehicles, recovered through intelligence-led operations in partnership with sister security agencies and state governments, include 24 Toyota vehicles, 5 Lexus, 2 Mercedes-Benz, 1 Ford Focus, 1 Daihatsu, 1 Pontiac Vibe, and 1 Toyota Sienna. The vehicles were taken under various criminal circumstances such as armed robbery, abduction, and fraudulent deception.

Corps Marshal of the FRSC praised the personnel involved in the recovery efforts, describing their actions as “a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency synergy and technological integration in modern law enforcement.”

He reiterated that while the primary mandate of the FRSC is road safety, the Corps remains unwavering in its support for national security through robust vehicle verification systems and the traceability of stolen assets.
“These recoveries are not just numbers; they represent our silent but determined war against criminal elements using stolen vehicles to undermine public safety,” he said.

The Corps urged members of the public to verify vehicle details before making purchases by using the NVIS portal or the FRSC mobile application, and to report any suspicious vehicle registrations. According to the Corps, public participation is crucial to enhancing the effectiveness of its operations.

“Public trust and collaboration are central to our mission,” the Corps stated, encouraging Nigerians to remain vigilant and proactive.

The FRSC has reaffirmed its dedication to expanding its data-based enforcement strategies, strengthening inter-agency cooperation, and deepening public confidence in its role as a guardian of both road safety and national security.
