Super Falcons beats Morocco to clinch 10th WAFCON title

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have once again stamped their authority on African women’s football, becoming the first team on the continent to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) an unprecedented 10 times.

In a thrilling final on Friday night in Rabat, the Nigerian side came from behind to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2, wrapping up what the team aptly described as #MissionX.

The Falcons found themselves trailing 2-0 at halftime after Morocco struck twice, leaving many doubting their chances.

But the reigning African champions responded in their usual fearless fashion, turning the match on its head with a second-half display full of grit, flair, and determination.

Esther Okoronkwo ignited the comeback in the 64th minute with a calm finish that gave Nigeria hope.

Not long after, she dazzled the Moroccan defence with a solo run before laying off a perfect assist to Folashade Ijamilusi, who slotted home the equaliser.

With the tension reaching its peak and just minutes left on the clock, substitute Jennifer Echegini delivered the decisive blow. She latched onto a long-range freekick from Okoronkwo, firing in the winner and completing one of the most remarkable comebacks in WAFCON history.

The dramatic win not only gave Nigeria their 10th continental title but also reaffirmed their position as the powerhouse of African women’s football.
