Gov Bago orders immediate reopening of IBBU Lapai following security review
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the immediate reopening of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, after a thorough assessment of security measures and infrastructural upgrades.
The university was previously shut down due to security threats and loss of lives within the school community.
However, following improvements, academic activities are now set to resume on Monday, August 4, 2025.
In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Governor Bago expressed satisfaction with the enhanced security architecture and the steps taken to protect students, staff, and the wider university environment.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all within the institution and pledged continued support for the educational sector as a key driver of development.
Alhaji Usman praised the joint efforts of security agencies, university management, and community leaders in addressing the issues that led to the closure, adding that all returning students and staff must adhere to established security protocols for a smooth return.
The directive was signed by Lawal Tanko, Information Officer from the SSG’s Office, on August 1, 2025.
