Excitement as renewed hope school sport festival kicks off

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is alive with the spirit of sportsmanship as the second edition of the Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike Renewed Hope School Sports Festival 2025 kicks off. The festival, which aims to inspire youth empowerment and showcase extraordinary talent, unites young athletes from public and private schools across the territory.

Malam Hashimu Adamu, Director of the Department of School Sports under the Education Secretariat, expressed excitement about this year’s event, emphasising its promise as a platform for discovering and nurturing future champions.

The festival features an extensive lineup of activities, including:

Track Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, relays, and long-distance races.
Field Events: high jump, long jump, shot put, and javelin.
Team sports: football, volleyball, basketball, and handball.
Board Games: chess, scrabble, and traditional games such as Ayo and ludo.

Preliminary competitions are underway at zonal levels from February 3 to 14, with the grand finale slated for February 24 to 27 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

Highlighting the importance of sports in shaping young minds, Malam Adamu called for enthusiastic support from stakeholders, urging corporate sponsors to ensure the festival’s success and sustainability.

He praised the Honourable Minister for his unwavering dedication to fostering physical development, discipline, and unity among students. “This festival not only builds future sports champions but also responsible citizens who understand the value of teamwork and perseverance,” he added.

The Renewed Hope School Sports Festival stands as a beacon of hope for youth empowerment and community development in the FCT.
