Alokponi Care Foundation holds quiz competition to empower the Girl Child
…presents cash prizes to winners
In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Alokponi Care Foundation has organised its 2025 Annual Quiz Competition to empower and inspire the girl child.
The competition featured students drawn from various secondary schools across the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State with winners receiving various cash prizes.
This year’s celebration, themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontline of Crises,” highlighted the potential, strength, and resilience of girls around the world.
Speaking during the event, the founder of the Alokponi Care Foundation, Ms Grace Akobi, said the initiative was aimed at fostering intellectual growth and promoting healthy competition among participating schools.
According to her, the quiz featured nine secondary schools, including Government Girls Secondary School, Ogoja; Government Secondary School, Okpoma, Yala; Yache Community Secondary School, Alifokpa-Yala; Royal International School, Yala LGA; Klinnicapps Academy, Yala LGA; Mathias Offoboche Secondary School, Okuku-Yala LGA; Government Science School, Ishibori-Ogoja; St Matthew Secondary School, Utugwang, Obudu LGA; and Igbeku Comprehensive Secondary School, Imaje-Yala LGA.
At the end of the competition, winners emerged in six categories, three best schools and three outstanding female students, in honour of the International Day of the Girl Child.

In the school category, St Matthew Secondary School, Utugwang, Obudu LGA emerged overall best in first position, Klinnicapps Academy, Yala LGA took second place, while Royal International School, Yala LGA came third.
In the individual category, Ogbudu Elizabeth of Royal International School clinched first position, Godswill Faith of Klinnicapps Academy came second, while Oyije Thelma of Igbeku Comprehensive Secondary School took third place.
Earlier, while addressing the participants, Ms Akobi said, “As we mark the International Day of the Girl Child 2025, I am reminded of the extraordinary journey so far. The path of self-discovery is one of courage, a journey of finding who we are, embracing what we stand for, and recognising the immeasurable value within us.
“It may not always be easy to uncover our purpose, but every step, every stumble, and every victory brings us closer to the woman we are destined to be. Dear girl, see yourself not through the narrow lens of society’s expectations, but through the brilliance of your own strength, resilience, and potential. Happy International Day of the Girl Child.”
Highpoint of the event was the distribution of customized exercise books to all participating students to appreciate their support and attendance.
