BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu drops plan to call witnesses in terrorism trial, says no valid charge against him

The detained self-acclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has withdrawn his earlier plan to call witnesses in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism offences.

The court had on October 24 adjourned the matter to October 27 for Kanu to open his defence after he wrote to the court indicating his intention to call witnesses and applied for witness summons.

However, when the case was called on Monday, Kanu told the court he had reviewed the case file and discovered there was no valid charge against him.

He maintained that since he was being subjected to what he described as an unlawful trial, there was no need for him to present any defence.

Justice Omotosho, presiding over the case, advised Kanu to consult criminal law experts on the implications of his decision.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case to November 4, 5, and 6 for the adoption of final written addresses, based on the defendant’s stance that the evidence presented so far and the charges have failed to establish any case against him or for the defendant to proceed with his defence.
