DSS storms Malami’s Abuja residence after Atiku’s visit
Operatives of the Department of State Services on Monday stormed a residence belonging to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in Maitama, forcing occupants to vacate the premises.
Sources said the incident occurred shortly after a visit by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who reportedly spent about an hour at the residence before departing.
An aide to Atiku confirmed the visit, while a witness disclosed that DSS operatives had already surrounded the house during the meeting but only moved in after the former vice-president left, according to reports.
The development comes amid increasing political tension, with pressure mounting on opposition figures such as Malami to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Critics have accused President Bola Tinubu of attempting to weaken opposition voices ahead of the next election cycle, an allegation the president has repeatedly denied.
Malami has in recent weeks been facing trial over alleged corruption, a case some observers argue may carry political undertones.
Atiku had earlier shared photographs from his visit to Malami but did not comment on the subsequent raid.
As of the time of filing this report, the DSS had yet to issue an official statement regarding the operation.
