BREAKING: Widow of late Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar regains freedom after weeks in captivity
Hajiya Amina Abubakar, the wife of late Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), has regained her freedom following weeks in captivity after being abducted alongside her husband in Katsina State.
The incident occurred on May 30, 2026, when their vehicle was ambushed along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area while they were reportedly travelling for a wedding ceremony.
Initial reports indicated that both victims were taken away by armed assailants, and a disturbing video later surfaced in which the abductors made demands for the release of three detained individuals as a condition for freeing their captives.
In the four-minute video circulated on social media, Hajiya Amina appealed to authorities and local leaders, urging compliance with the abductors’ demands, which reportedly included the release of suspects identified as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru.
Tragically, last week, news emerged confirming the death of her husband in captivity, further heightening concerns over the fate of the widow.
However, on Monday, security sources reported that troops tracked the abductors and engaged them in a gun battle, forcing the release of Hajiya Amina. Details of the operation remain sketchy as of press time.
A notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Muhammad, had earlier claimed responsibility for withholding her release, alleging that increased security presence in the area disrupted his initial plans. In an audio message, he also cited the arrest of individuals linked to his network as a complicating factor in any negotiation efforts.
Security authorities are yet to issue an official comprehensive statement on the rescue operation.
