Children’s Day: NAWOJ FCT urges action to tackle out-of-school children crisis
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has called on government at all levels to step up efforts in addressing the growing crisis of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
In a statement marking the 2025 National Children’s Day, the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, described children as the future leaders and heartbeat of the nation, while expressing concern over Nigeria’s alarming figures. According to UNICEF, the country currently has an estimated 18.3 million out-of-school children — the highest number globally.
Comrade Ikpang reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to promoting the welfare, rights, and education of children, and raising awareness about issues affecting their lives. She stressed the association’s resolve to continue advocacy and work towards creating an inclusive, safe, and enabling environment where every Nigerian child can thrive and reach their full potential.
The association also urged stakeholders to actively contribute to building a nation where the dreams of every child are protected, their future secured, and their well-being prioritised.
“Happy Children’s Day. NAWOJ FCT loves you all,” the statement concluded.
The statement was jointly signed by the Chapter’s Secretary, Nkiruka Okeke.
