Donald Trump threatens $1 billion lawsuit against BBC over edited footage
Donald Trump has threatened to sue the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after one of its programs aired an edited version of a speech he gave on January 6, 2021 ,the day of the U.S. Capitol riot. According to Trump and his legal team, the edited clip removed parts of the speech where he called for peaceful conduct, making it appear as though he encouraged unrest.
His lawyers have demanded a public correction and apology, warning that the BBC could face a lawsuit of up to $1 billion if it does not address the issue.
Reports from within the BBC suggest the situation has caused internal tension, including scrutiny of editorial decisions and responsibility for oversight. Media experts say the case raises important questions about journalistic responsibility, accuracy of political reporting, and how broadcast organizations handle sensitive political content.
The BBC is expected to release a formal statement soon.
