Drama as aggrieved FCTA Workers chase Wike’s convoy in Abuja

Abuja witnessed a tense scene on Monday as aggrieved workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) reportedly pursued the motorcade of Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, during a protest over unresolved welfare and salary disputes.

A video obtained by by our sources showed striking workers gathering to press their demands before becoming visibly agitated as Wike’s convoy moved through the area. The protesters were seen chanting and moving toward the vehicles, calling for urgent attention to their grievances.

The industrial action, which began last week, has shut down activities across major government offices in the capital. The workers accuse authorities of failing to address long-standing labour and welfare demands, prompting an indefinite strike.

In response, Minister Wike filed a suit against the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) at the Abuja division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN). The case, marked NICN/ABJ/17/2026, lists Wike and the FCTA as claimants, while JUAC President Rifkatu Iortyer and Secretary-General Abdullahi Saleh are named as defendants in their representative capacities. The matter is scheduled for hearing today.

The incident underscores the growing tension between FCTA workers and the ministry as both sides seek legal and administrative remedies to resolve the dispute.
