The All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has sworn in new executives during its 175th Congress, held at Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, in an atmosphere marked by celebration and reflection on achievements.

Speaking at the event, the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, described ANCOPSS as a “formidable body” that has lived up to its responsibility of shaping students into responsible leaders. He commended the association for its consistency and contributions to the teaching profession, urging members to remain steadfast in their service to the nation.

“Teaching is the noblest of all professions, and its positive impact cuts across every sector of society. I encourage the new executives to build on this legacy and ensure inclusiveness, unity, and professionalism,” Dr Hayyo said.

He further assured principals that the FCT Administration, under Minister Nyesom Wike, was embarking on massive renovations and infrastructural development across schools in all six area councils of the Territory.

The Director and Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr Sani Mohammed Ladan—himself a former ANCOPSS president—described the congress as a “platform for robust engagement and collaboration,” and called on members to support the new executives.

Delivering his valedictory speech, the outgoing president, Alhaji Adam Bello Gupa, reflected on his four-year tenure, noting that it had been “a journey marked by unity, progress, and shared impact.” He highlighted achievements such as continuous professional training for principals, sustained congresses, and annual competitions including the Principals’ Cup and quiz contests.

He also celebrated the recognition received by FCT principals and teachers at national and local levels, while commending the FCT Administration for promoting career advancement within the teaching cadre. Gupa urged the new leadership to consolidate on professional excellence, strengthen unity, and prioritise members’ welfare.

Before the inauguration of the new executives, Hajia Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services, formally dissolved the outgoing team, praising them for their dedication to quality education.

In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in president, Dr Jiya Umar Mohammed, pledged to lead with “transparency, inclusiveness, and commitment,” assuring members of a leadership that would listen and promote professional excellence.

He was inaugurated alongside other officers, including Mr Victor Orifah (Vice President I), Dr Jimoh A. Sunday (Vice President II), Zubairu U. Ahmed (Secretary), Yusuf Imam Bello (Public Relations Officer), Joyce Oborokumo (General Welfare Officer), Rakiya M. Sule (Treasurer), and Hauwa Aliyu (Financial Secretary), among others.

Highlights of the congress included the unveiling of the maiden edition of ANCOPSS Press Clips, presentation of awards to members and education officials, and a health talk for participants.

The event concluded with the formal inauguration of the new executives, signalling a fresh chapter for the association’s role in strengthening secondary education in the FCT.
