Despite NBA suit, Delta Police impound 25 Vehicles

The Delta State Police Command says it has impounded 25 vehicles for lacking tinted glass permits, even as a court case challenges the legality of the policy.

In a post shared on X Friday, the command displayed photos of the seized vehicles.

The nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy began on Thursday, requiring motorists to obtain an annual permit through the digital portal possap.gov.ng. Initially scheduled for June 1, the policy was later shifted to October 2.

However, the directive has drawn criticism. The Nigerian Bar Association’s Section of Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) filed a public interest suit in September at the Federal High Court in Abuja to contest its legality.

On October 1, the NBA wrote to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, faulting the decision to proceed with enforcement while the case was still in court. In response, Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin described the association’s stance as misleading and aimed at discrediting the police.

But earlier on Friday, a Federal High Court in Delta ordered the suspension of the policy’s enforcement.

The suit was filed by lawyer John Aikpokpo-Martins against the Nigeria Police Force and the IGP.
