FCT minister kicks off distribution of tablets, laptops to secondary schools
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has officially launched the distribution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to secondary schools across the FCT. This marks a significant step towards integrating technology into the education sector.
At the launch event, Mrs. Joy Okeke, Permanent Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, praised the leadership behind this initiative, crediting it to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which has been actively supported by the FCT Minister.
“We have all seen the positive changes in the FCT since the Honourable Minister took office, affecting all sectors, including education,” Okeke said.
She also spoke about ongoing improvements to public school infrastructure, expressing confidence that FCT schools would continue to compete at an international level. She commended Dr. Danlami Hayyo, the Mandate Secretary for Education, for his dedication to advancing education in the FCT.
Okeke encouraged the schools receiving the equipment to ensure proper maintenance to guarantee its long-term use.
Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board, described the distribution as the first phase of a larger effort to modernise education and encourage digital learning across the FCT. He acknowledged the positive impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda on the education sector and thanked Dr. Hayyo for his efforts in making the project a reality.
A total of 850 computer tablets and 45 laptops will be given to 20 public senior secondary schools in all six Area Councils of the FCT. Each school will receive 42 tablets for students and two laptops for ICT teachers. These new resources will help improve digital literacy, teaching methods, and prepare students for the technology-driven future.

Dr. Ladan assured that the new equipment would be used effectively and that training would begin immediately to ensure it benefits students’ academic performance.
Alhaji Adam Bello Gupa, President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), thanked the Minister for his commitment to the education sector. He highlighted the ongoing improvements to school infrastructure since the Minister took office. Gupa also commended the FCT Education Secretariat and the Secondary Education Board for their tireless work in securing resources to enhance teaching and learning.
He promised that ANCOPSS would monitor the use of the new ICT facilities to ensure they are used properly and effectively to boost academic results in the FCT.
The event concluded with the official distribution of the solar-powered ICT equipment, a key step in improving digital learning and providing students with the essential technological skills needed in today’s digital world.
