FCTA enrols 198,810 FCT residents in health insurance scheme

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that 198,810 residents of the nation’s capital have been enrolled in its health insurance scheme over the past year significantly exceeding the initial target of 25,000 enrolees.
According to a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the figure includes 10,065 pregnant women.
The statement notes that pregnant women and other vulnerable groups, who were enrolled at no cost, now have access to antenatal care, childbirth services (including caesarean sections), laboratory tests, and a range of other services available at Primary Health Care Centres and General Hospitals across the territory.
It further explains that the free health insurance for pregnant women, which commenced in February this year, forms part of the administration’s strategy to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the territory and broaden access to healthcare services.
Hospitals in Gwarinpa, Nyanya, Abaji, and Kuje have also been upgraded to provide emergency obstetric and neonatal care free of charge, the statement added.
The FCTA therefore urges residents to register for the scheme in order to take full advantage of its benefits.
