Federal High Court denounces fake report on alleged assassination attempt on Justice Omotosho
The Federal High Court has issued a strong public disclaimer, dismissing as false a report by a “celebrity blogger” claiming that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, survived an assassination attempt following the life sentence imposed on Nnamdi Kanu.
In an official statement released on Saturday, Chief Registrar Sulaiman Amida Hassan described the publication as “completely false and unfounded,” urging the public to disregard it and avoid spreading misinformation.
The Court warned that such a sensitive report, capable of triggering public fear and undermining confidence in the judiciary, could be part of an attempt to intimidate the institution. It called on security agencies and regulatory authorities to launch a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those behind the false claim, in line with cybercrime, defamation, and public misinformation laws.
The statement affirmed the Court’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the judicial system and cautioned against the deliberate circulation of unverified information.
