Four Killed as Armed Men Attack Two Niger Communities

Four people have been killed after unidentified armed men attacked two communities in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The victims were killed in Godoro and Angwan-Bisala communities, both under Katako District, during the early hours of Wednesday, September 23.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the attackers stormed the communities at about 1:30am.

According to him, four people were killed during the attack, while two others sustained serious injuries.

Abiodun said the injured victims were immediately taken to a hospital where they are receiving medical attention.

“The armed men attacked the two communities at about 1:30am, killing four people and leaving two others seriously injured,” he said.

The police spokesperson said officers had visited the affected communities and assessed the scene of the attack.

He added that the command had commenced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

The latest attack adds to security concerns in parts of Niger State, where communities in some rural areas have faced attacks by armed groups.

The police said further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
