Lagos Police Begin Disciplinary Action Against Inspector Over Viral Video

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced disciplinary action against an inspector over controversial remarks he made in a viral social media video.

The officer, identified as Inspector Osumah Frank, was seen in police uniform while travelling in a public vehicle, where he made comments the command described as “careless, inappropriate and uncultured.”

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026.

According to the statement, Frank’s remarks were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the official position of either the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

In the video, which circulated widely on social media from around September 23, the inspector made remarks concerning Igbo people and discussed the political ambitions of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

He also made comments involving President Bola Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Frank was further heard suggesting that police officers could collect money to frustrate the chances of a political candidate succeeding.

The remarks generated criticism, particularly over the comments concerning Igbo people and the suggestion that police officers could be financially induced to interfere with a political candidate’s prospects.

Reacting to the development, the Lagos Police Command said it had commenced disciplinary proceedings against the inspector in accordance with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adebisi said.

The Command added that the officer’s comments were made in his personal capacity and should not be interpreted as reflecting its views or official disposition.

“It also wishes to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, stressed the need for officers to maintain professionalism and respect for members of the public.

“All personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times,” Fatai said.

He noted that wearing the police uniform carried a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force.

According to him, the command would not tolerate conduct capable of bringing the police into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the institution.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and “policing with humility and integrity.”

It, however, did not disclose the specific disciplinary measures being taken against Frank or the outcome of the proceedings.
