Four police officers face disciplinary action after allegedly extorting ICPC chairman in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered the arrest and orderly room trial of four police officers accused of abandoning their duty posts, conducting an unauthorised traffic operation, and allegedly extorting a motorist in Abuja.

The officers identified are ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja, and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel.

According to a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on July 11, 2026, when the officers allegedly left their designated duty posts and proceeded to Banex Plaza Junction, Wuse II, where they carried out an illegal traffic enforcement operation.

During the operation, the officers reportedly stopped a motorist over an alleged traffic violation and extorted ₦52,000 from him.

The victim was later identified as the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).

Following the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered the immediate arrest of the officers and directed that they face an orderly room trial for abandoning their lawful duty posts, engaging in unauthorised traffic enforcement, and the alleged extortion.

The Command said disciplinary proceedings have commenced in line with police regulations, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct by its personnel.
