Gov Bago honours victims of WWII Siege at Russian Memorial Cemetery
Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, Nigeria, has paid a solemn tribute at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in memory of the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives during the 900-day Siege of Leningrad in World War II.
During the emotional visit, Governor Bago laid a wreath and offered prayers for the victims, reflecting on the sacrifices made by both soldiers and civilians during one of history’s darkest chapters.
His visit was a gesture of solidarity with the Russian people, underlining the shared global values of peace, resilience, and remembrance.
The visit also provided an opportunity to foster cultural ties between Nigeria and Russia. Governor Bago emphasised the significance of historical preservation and mutual understanding in promoting stronger relations between nations and their regions.
While at the memorial site, the governor stressed the importance of drawing lessons from history to build a more peaceful, tolerant, and cooperative world.
He noted that such international engagements help preserve the memories of past generations and remind the world of the high cost of conflict.
The Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery stands as a lasting symbol of human endurance and sacrifice, and Governor Bago’s visit served as a reminder of the universal call for peace and unity across nations.
