Gunmen launch fresh attacks near Plateau Poly, kill two
Gunmen on Wednesday night attacked communities in Plateau State, leaving at least two people dead and two others injured.
The incident happened in Ban community, Heipang, located opposite Plateau State Polytechnic, around 11 pm when the assailants reportedly stormed the area and began shooting sporadically.
According to reports, three residents were struck by bullets during the attack and were quickly taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
One of the injured victims is said to be a woman who was shot during the incident.
Details surrounding the motive for the attack remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.
One of them, a woman, later succumbed to gunshot wounds while two others sustained injuries, it was further gathered.
The shooting triggered panic among students of the Plateau State Polytechnic, especially those living off-campus.
Nanchip Dube, a student of the polytechnic, said the sounds of gunshots threw the campus community into confusion.
“The sounds of gunshots created panic amongst students,” Dube recounted.
In a related incident earlier in Riyom Local Government Area, 27-year-old Amos Monday, a resident of Du’a village in Kwi Ward, was killed when gunmen ambushed some youths between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village in Kwi Ward at about 8:15 pm.
Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), confirmed both attacks to newsmen in Jos.
He advised residents of Kwi, Wereng and neighbouring communities in Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom to remain vigilant.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, for comments proved abortive.
