Kano mother dies after delivering quintuplets, newborns stable
A Kano woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, who recently gave birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, has tragically died.
The Kano State Ministry of Health confirmed the death, with Public Relations Officer Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa saying she passed away around 2 a.m. on Thursday. The mother suffered persistent bleeding after delivering three boys and two girls, and medical efforts to stabilise her proved unsuccessful.
“She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” K/Na’isa said. The deceased was buried according to Islamic rites at her Hotoro residence.
Authorities have appealed to the public to support the surviving quintuplets with milk and other essentials. The newborns are reported to be in stable condition and continue to receive medical care at the hospital.
The incident comes a day after the Kano State Government announced it had taken responsibility for the medical care of the mother and her babies. The husband, Malam Salisu Nufi’u, expressed gratitude to the government for the timely intervention, while officials reaffirmed their commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare in the state.
