A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Makoda Constituency, Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, has defected from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tomas announced his return to the APC on Monday during a visit to the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, in Abuja.

He was accompanied by the Chairman of Makoda Local Government Area, Isa Currency, and the Chairman of Dambatta Local Government Area, Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta.

Welcoming the lawmaker back into the APC, Senator Jibrin described the decision as timely and commendable, saying it reflected a commitment to progress and good governance.

“Today, I had the honour of receiving back Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas to our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Together, we will continue to work tirelessly for the growth and success of our party, Kano North Senatorial District, Kano State, and Nigeria as a whole,” Jibrin stated.

The Deputy Senate President assured Tomas of equal opportunities within the APC, describing the ruling party as the largest political platform in Africa.

The defection comes weeks after the lawmaker reportedly lost his bid to secure a return ticket under the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Tomas had previously left the APC for the NDC, where he was received by former Kano State governor and party leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

His latest move adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
