The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 78 suspects in various locations across the state, alongside the recovery of dangerous weapons, illegal drugs, and stolen property.

The Commissioner of Police, Dr Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on Friday.

Dr Bakori stated that the arrests were part of ongoing operations aimed at curbing crime throughout the state. Among those detained was a notorious drug dealer, Sulaiman Danwawu, aged 32, from Tudun Yola Quarters. The police chief revealed that Danwawu, who had previously appeared in court in 2022 for possessing 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol, was once again found with illicit substances.

The Commissioner also reported the apprehension of a suspected armed robber, who was found in possession of two Beretta pistols and ten rounds of live ammunition.

Providing an overview of operations conducted between 23 April and 9 May 2025, Dr Bakori stated that the police had arrested five suspected armed robbers, seven drug dealers, one suspected cattle rustler, four alleged fraudsters, 13 suspected thieves, and 48 suspected thugs, locally known as Yan Daba.

Recovered items from the suspects included two Beretta pistols with ten rounds of live ammunition, significant quantities of drugs such as Pregabalin, Diazepam, Tramadol, Codeine, Pentazocine, and Cannabis. Additionally, the police retrieved eight vehicles, three tricycles, two motorcycles, 12 cutlasses, 15 knives, counterfeit currency amounting to $198 and ₦311,000, five sheep, two rams, 12 mobile phones, an alternator generator, and various household items.

Dr Bakori emphasised that these successes demonstrate the effectiveness of the command’s strategies in combating drug abuse and criminal activities such as thuggery, armed robbery, and phone snatching. He also noted a reduction in car theft and related crimes within the state.

The Commissioner assured the public of the command’s ongoing dedication to maintaining peace and urged residents to provide credible information to assist law enforcement. He expressed gratitude to the media and the law-abiding citizens of Kano State for their continued support, stating, “We rely on your cooperation to ensure Kano remains safe.”
