Kebbi Police detain Three Officers over suspected murder of Abubakar Auwal
The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the detention of three police officers in connection with the suspected murder of one Abubakar Auwal.
According to the Command, the incident began after a report was lodged at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jega concerning the theft of trailer truck rims. In the course of the investigation, Abubakar Auwal was arrested as a suspect.
While still in custody, Auwal reportedly collapsed and was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Jega for medical attention. Unfortunately, he died on the same day.
Following suspicions of foul play surrounding the circumstances of his death, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Bello Sani, ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
During the discreet inquiry, three officers were found to have questions to answer and are currently being detained at the SCID pending further investigation and disciplinary action.
The Commissioner reassured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding professionalism and ethical standards in the discharge of its duties.
“The wrong actions of a few officers do not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force,” CP Bello Sani stated. “Prompt and disciplinary measures are always taken against any erring officer to guarantee justice and accountability.”
He further stressed that the Police Force remains committed to maintaining discipline, safeguarding the integrity of its operations, and earning the trust of the communities it serves.
CP Bello also urged all officers to always uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities.
