The Nigerian Army has announced that troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered high-calibre weapons and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from fleeing Lakurawa terrorists during a clearance operation in Kebbi State.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and spokesperson for the operation, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the offensive was carried out on Sunday, June 14, in the Dogon Daji general area of Dandi Local Government Area.

Osoba said the troops engaged members of the Lakurawa terrorist group and applied superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee.

“During the operation, the gallant troops brought superior firepower to bear on the Lakurawa Terrorist Group, decisively overwhelming the terrorists and forcing them to flee,” the statement read.

He added that following the encounter, the troops pursued the fleeing insurgents along withdrawal routes, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of arms, explosives, and logistics items abandoned in their camp.

Items recovered included rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers, RPG warheads, multiple improvised explosive devices, motorcycles, battery chargers, and other personal belongings used by the group.

The Army confirmed that no casualties were recorded on the side of the troops during the operation.

Osoba said the success of the mission underscores the military’s ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating across the North-West region, stressing that offensive operations will be sustained to deny criminal groups freedom of movement.

Security operations have recently intensified in the region as authorities move to curb terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes linked to armed groups operating across border communities.
